Isolde Sarnecki

Born in the Netherlands where her fascination with shafts of light above the flat landscape and the shadows in the faces of people started, Isolde has had a love for drawing from the moment she could hold a pencil. An album with drawings and paintings that her Kindergarten teacher assembled for her, was an indication of things to come. Marriage took Isolde to Michigan where she received a degree in graphic design at E.M.U. With a background in graphic design, a pursuit of quilt making, seemed natural. Her quilts have been displayed, throughout the U.S,  Japan and the Netherlands. The story always stood central to her art, but in order to explore and capture light and reveal the expression in the faces of her subjects, Isolde realized that she had to turn to painting, Though Isolde is mostly a self taught painter, she learned from reading many books and countless trips to museums in the US and Europe. During her years as an art teacher, she always found time to paint and now that she has retired, she has taken up painting full time. Isolde has also taken many workshops, and her paintings have been chosen for the Oil Painters of America 2020 Virtual Salon, the American Watercolor Society and the members only competition of the Portrait society of America as well as the Michigan and North Carolina watercolor Societies. Her work has been published on websites like Artsy Shark, Bold Brush Painting Competition, Art Competition. net, and the Gateway International Painting Competition. Isolde currently resides in Raleigh, NC, where she is tirelessly pursuing the craft of painting in oil and watercolor.
